Monday, August 26

1.  Lecture:  The "discovery" of America
2.  Go over the reading and identify the supporting details that are used to make each claim.

For homework, you will need to write a MelCON paragraph that argues whether or not Columbus can be viewed as a hero or villain.

Lecture:  The English settlement of America

Wednesday, August 28

Introduction to Specific Definitions

Homework:  Read pages 52-54. Complete the Unit 1, #1 Specific Definition sheet.  Due Friday.

Thursday, August 29

Lecture:  The Puritans in America

Be sure to finish the Specific Definition #1 for tomorrow!

Friday, August 30   BRING YOUR BOOK TODAY!

1.  Finish discussing the Puritans
2.  Work Time.  You will have some time in class to work on the the Specific Definitions #2.  I will be around to help, if you are having difficulty.  Also, you can work on the 13 colonies Map.  Everything will be due on Wednesday.

WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 21

Welcome to class.  We will discuss the expectations and hand out books.

Homework:  Read the article, "The Corn God" by Michael Caduto.  Annotate the reading, underline important passages.  Why, you ask?  You will be having a short quiz over the reading on Friday!  (It's about corn--and, living in America in 2013, there is nothing you eat more).

THURSDAY, AUGUST 22

Lecture:  America before Columbus

Homework:  Make sure you have read the article:  Quiz tomorrow!

FRIDAY, AUGUST 23

1.  Quiz over the article
2.  Lecture:  The History of Corn

Homework:  Read the two articles about Columbus:  Was Columbus a Hero or Not?  On Monday, we will discuss the articles and you will write an argumentative paragraph, using evidence from the articles. Have a great weekend!
